Heather Erson Photography - Jackson Hole Wyoming

Amber and Sam traveled from Oregon for their engagement portraits at Mormon Row in Grand Teton National Park and the Jackson Hole town square. Sam is the great-great-great-grandson of Nick Wilson, the founder of Wilson, Wyoming.

In 1854 Sam’s great-great-great-grandfather “Uncle Nick” Wilson as a boy of 12 passed through Jackson Hole with the Shoshone Indians. Uncle Nick or “Yagaki”, as he was known to the Indians was adopted by Washakie, Chief of the Shoshone, and lived with them for two years. In later years Uncle Nick rode for the Pony Express and drove for the Overland Stage.

In 1889, Uncle Nick drove the first covered wagons over Teton Pass into Jackson Hole and the town of Wilson still bears his name today. Nick Wilson’s is also the name of a restaurant at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. Sam’s family is still part of the Jackson community today. It was an honor to photograph them and learn more about the history of the Jackson Hole area.

Ashley and Grant traveled from Hawaii for their engagement portraits at Schwabacher’s Landing and Hotel Terra in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. They were inspired by a TV show about Grand Teton National Park and Yellowstone and promptly booked a vacation to see the Tetons in person. Much respect to Ashley who can rock the hiking trail in high heels. Congratulations Ashely and Grant!

Ashley and Jason traveled from Alabama to Jackson Hole, Wyoming for their elopement ceremony at the National Elk Refuge. The September colors of gold, yellow and blue created a stunning backdrop. We then drove to Grand Teton National Park for portraits at Schwabacher’s Landing along the Snake River.

When I first started my photography career I never thought I would have photos published on ESPN. Well, I am happy that ESPN chose to feature a black and white portrait I took of bad-ass skier Sage Cattabriga-Alosa in a recent interview feature. Darrah and Ben held their wedding at historic Hunter Hereford Ranch in Grand Teton National Park near Jackson, Wyoming. The ceremony under the backdrop of the Tetons was followed by a champagne toast at the historic Hunter Hereford barn. The reception at Spring Creek Ranch featured a scrumptious dinner, toasts and dancing. Congratulations Darrah and Ben!

Tricia and Jason traveled from Maryland for their destination wedding at Schwabacher’s Landing on the Snake River in Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming. The fall colors created a stunning palette of gold, pink, orange and blue. Their wedding ceremony incorporated Scottish and Celtic traditions. A banjo and fiddle player played traditional Scottish music throughout the day. The ceremony including a ring warming, where the rings are passed to the guests and they offer blessings to the couple. Tricia and Jason concluded the ceremony by “Tying the Knot” where they tie their wedding plaids (clan tartans) together as a symbol of the unity of the two families. Their 6-month old son Jackson (aptly named after Jackson Hole) looked on and he has the biggest blue eyes. Congratulations Tricia and Jason!

Terry and Thomas traveled from New York City for their destination wedding in Jackson Hole, Wyoming at The Jackson Hole Golf and Tennis. Their wedding merged Chinese and American wedding traditions.

It was a beautiful summer wedding day with not a cloud in the sky. Terry’s father gave a heartfelt toast in Chinese and then in English. Guests feasted and danced the night away. This was a fun wedding to photograph (did I mention dancing?) and one of my favorite parts was the sunset portrait session on the golfing greens in front of the Teton Mountains.

Terry and Thomas’ wedding weekend began with a Chinese Tea Ceremony on the 43 North Patio in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. The Chinese wedding tea ceremony is an official ritual to introduce the newlyweds to each family, and is a way for the newlyweds to show respect and appreciation to their parents and other elder close relatives. The newlyweds serve wedding tea and other sweets to their parents and elders. Parents and elders give their words of blessing and gifts to the newlyweds. During the tea presentation, the newlyweds call the parents and elders by their familial title, and the parents and elders say auspicious phrases to bless the newlyweds. The bride and groom pass plates of candies and moon cake. The sweets symbolize good fortune, fertility and happiness in marriage. The sweetness of the wedding tea symbolizes the sweetness of the new marriage. Lucky red paper envelopes are handed to the new couple; traditionally, money (can be token gestures), jewelry, or other gifts will be placed inside the envelopes.

Kristy and David traveled from Ohio to Wyoming for their destination wedding at Jackson Lake Lodge in Grand Teton National Park. We started the day at historic Mormon Row, a series of antique barns just north of Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Then we took a stroll along Jackson Lake before their ceremony at Jackson Lake Lodge. A rainstorm postponed the portraits of the family, but that gave me a chance to photograph Kristy in front of the huge windows inside of Jackson Lake Lodge. The clouds parted for sunset and we captured some stunning scenic photos with a Teton thunderstorm in the background. Congratulations Kristy and David!
