What to Expect When You Book a Jackson Hole Family Portrait Session
I love having families—big and small—for portrait sessions! It’s an honor to be able to capture those memories for people of every age, and for you, the subjects, it’s both a fun experience making memories and a chance to see the beautiful mountains. So, what can you expect once you book a Jackson Hole family portrait session with me?
Once you’ve booked and paid the 50% retainer fee and signed a contract, I’ll email you a link to a questionnaire. That way, I can get to know you and your family as well as your personal style.
There are several different locations to choose from as well: Grand Teton National Park, about 25 minutes north of Jackson Hole and Teton Village, has several amazing spots for pictures. I’m particular to Moulton Barn; Schwabacher’s Landing, on the banks of the Snake River under the Grand Tetons; and Granite Canyon Trailhead, which has beautiful trees, sagebrush, and mountains only a 10-minute drive from Teton Village.
Or, if you don’t feel like traveling, I can always come to your home! Either way, I’ll be in touch with you a few days before your session to finalize all the arrangements.
I have the lighting equipment to work with any time of day, but I love to work around the 4–5 pm hour where there is a nice side light. Schedule 2 hours of your time for the session, including 1 hour for driving and 1 hour for the session itself. After all, you’ll be driving into the wilderness! I’d also suggest bringing snacks and water for the car ride as well as a coat and hat in case it gets cold. Don’t forget to gas up your car, and don’t approach any of the wildlife or sit on the antique structures.
I always suggest to my clients that they should have their hair and makeup professionally done. It’s always WINDY in the mountains, so make sure to bring LOTS of hairspray and a comb! Ladies, bring powder for shiny foreheads. And make sure that everyone is wearing clothes and colors that make you feel and look your best!
If you have kids, don’t worry! I have years of experience as a nanny, and I love working with the little ones to bring out those natural smiles. Sometimes it takes time, but I’m very patient. I’d suggest bringing gummies, juice, treats, and a sippy cup of water. It is dry here, and kids are always thirsty on shoots. Don’t bring treats with crumbs that can get everywhere, but do bring wipes for runny noses!
Lastly, don’t be afraid to ask for something a little different! I can photograph families in multiple combinations, and I offer custom retouching services. Every photoshoot includes an online gallery with the ability to order prints online, and I am also more than happy to design family portrait albums and holiday cards!
